I Finally Found it...

After about a year of searching and applying I had finally found the internship that I desired and would give me some bit of relief that I just might find a job outside of college. Many would think of this as ridiculous as there are hundreds of opportunities out there for your internship requirement, but I had a peculiar one - and when it comes to something that I am very passionate about - I am very picky. I wanted my career to be in the eradication of human trafficking. As you can probably tell, that specific line of work is a bit sparce in availability.

So I got involved. I started a Twitter account, taught myself HTML and created a website and started using Facebook for what I believe it was intended for - interaction. I was a networking hub for about a year, connecting with groups online and developing my knowledge of the subject and honing my website to become somewhat of a personal Linkdin profile that stood out and shined in the professional community. I now have over 1,000 charity orgs involved with that website across DC and am starting a student organization in the Fall called DONE that gets people involved with anti human trafficking events and charitable causes. All of these were crucial in attaining that internship - and none of them were taught in a classroom! I now work for Shared Hope International as a website developer, (which had nothing to do with my degree), as well as a research assistant, (which very well did!)

It just goes to show, that if you really want something, you are going to have to develop your skill set outside of the conventional classroom to get it - and don't ever stop. Good luck to you.
